Thou shall not ASK for money. She can receieveth if the good man hands feel inclined to give but she shall not request.
-Proverbs 1:18
Seriously, why the fuck is it still taboo for women to ask men for money? In the age of digital dating, plenty a Tinder profile is laced with all the trappings of a man who has worked hard to provide for himself and since he’s on a dating app, one would assume he’s looking to be able to provide that for the lady in his life. Well, it seems as though it’s fine for the man to attract the woman with these things but what it’s not okay is for the woman to expect that she too will reap the benefits – well not until she jumps through circus hoops to prove herself to him and then she may get a few dollars or a meal tossed her way.
Recently, I was combing through a Facebook post where the poster asked, “How soon is too soon to lend money in a relationship?” An overwhelming amount of women responded to the tune of not feeling comfortable accepting money from a boyfriend because it can really ruin a relationship. Wait. What? So you’re telling me that as a woman we’re okay with giving our time, emotional energy and often times our pussies to men but we don’t feel comfortable asking for money? What kind of psychological patriarchy bullshit is that?! If you can provide the things a man needs from a woman then you should feel no issues with having him provide what you need and if men are supposed to lead the household…you see we’re struggling to find a problem here.
The tag of a gold digger gets flung around far too loosly but a gold digger is a woman who ONLY wants the money she isn’t providing anything in return. Most women (to include the ones out in remote places of Nevada doing strange things) provide at least emotional support to men, some more than others but it’s there nonetheless.
Women and Salaries
You can Google the statistics but it should come as no surprise that women make a substantial amount less than their male counterparts in the workplace. I’m sure there’s some researched answer as to why but let’s cut the bullshit…it’s because we don’t ask. We have to stop waiting on our HR fairygodmother to offer us the inflated salary we’ve been dreaming of-just ask for it. Oddly enough, many of employers are willing to compensate us at the rate we request and even have the budget to go a bit higher but we’ve been trained by our culture to get what’s given to us, be patient and climb the ranks. You know what your worth is in the professional world, ask for it and don’t take a penny less.
