Less is more, really. Having a nicely curated supply of staples is key to having sexy hair on the regular. DC based stylist, Coree Moreno lets us in on the products he says all brown girls should have on their sink and in their bag. Sure, there are cult favorites that work for almost everyone but really, your hair type coupled by the look that you are trying to achieve is what should drive your choices…not popularity or your friend’s recommendation for that matter. Coree says “clients don’t talk to their stylist. They don’t ask for help or for tips on how to recreate at home”. He also adds “when it’s time to check out they’ll either buy what we recommend without asking how to use it or they’ll skip our recommendation and try to buy something cheaper and also often less effective”.
Tip #1:
Buy multi-use products. If it can fluff up flat hair and add shine, throw it in the bag!
Tip #2:
If you absolutely love it, buy it in the largest size. Salon products are costly but they’ll be even more expensive when you buy the smaller size and have to re-purchase more frequently. The larger the size, the more cost effective per ounce.
Tip #3:
INVEST! Quality products serve a serious purpose. They maintain the health of your hair and preserve chemical services. That $40 shampoo might just be your saving grace to making sure your $200 color doesn’t go down the drain-literally.
Oribe’s Impermeable Anti-Humidity Spray is essential for preserving that blowout especially in warmer temps or climates that tend to carry a lot of humidity. It’s a dry finishing spray so style your hair as desired and spray after. He recommends getting the purse size and keeping it handy all year long.
Ouai’s Dry Texture spray like most [texture sprays] on the market creates a “I didn’t just get my hair done but it looks so sexy that you might think I did”. Texture sprays are favorites of girls who aren’t looking for the fresh blowout look. They want to create day two or three day hair with fresh clean hair. If this is you, opt for this floral fav and keep your Beyonce tresses on call.
Bumble & Bumble’s City Swept is like a dry texturing spray with drum roll please….hold!

R+Co’s Mannequin Styling Paste is similar to a texturizing spray but allows you to create a piecey look. If you want to control the way your hair looks (for example choppy messy bangs) then this gem is for you!
