You know about knock-offs but that’s not what we’re talking about. We’re talking about major fashion lines like Gucci and Vetements who are creating pieces and carefully sculpting the completed outfits that you see in print and on runway with the notion that their looks will inspire you to recreate styles even if it doesn’t don their logos. Think of these brands as your style “walk down memory lane”. You see, a lot of what’s hot in fashion at the moment (especially the designs of the aforementioned labels) are simply recreations of what once was. Maybe it’s the plaid or the opaque colored tights your mom forced you to wear back in 1989 or the super-sized looks of the early 90’s when Kris Kross was making us all jump, it’s all back and hotter than ever.
Of course you can just support these brands directly and I’m sure they hope you do but fashion is also art and art is created for the fantasy and inspiration so if Vetements is giving permission to raid your dad’s closet for your the structured leather blazer from the 80’s that he for some reason still has, do it! Layer it over your favorite pullover hoodie and you’ll be the most stylish person on your block.
