Anisha is cool. The kind of cool that is for real and rare. Not laced in head to toe labels or overtly sexy silhouettes and that within itself is refreshing. “Oh! I definitely eat burgers” is what she said when I asked to head to one of my favorite spots mainly because I wanted fries and a vanilla shake. Anisha was casually tardy for the party but she didn’t see me eating the aforementioned diet busters so hey–it didn’t happen! She and her bestie arrived like the coolest minimal yet kinda not minimal brown girls you want to know.
Murdock who currently works for the 5-letter Italian luxury label that starts with a G and ends with an I in DC knows how to tastefully blend her handmade knits with staple accessories in a so-not-abnoxious way that feels so right.

MT:Your personal style is tomboy chic. What’s your go-to piece (fashion or beauty) that you can always count on for a touch of femininity?
AM: Some days when I want a more androgynous look, but want to still look somewhat feminine, I reach for my Anastasia Brow Wiz in Ebony for a natural brow and Diorshow Mascara for super full and bold lashes.
With my style, I love oversized denim jackets in all colors and styles from distressed and bleached to shearling lined and tailored. I can rock them day and night!
MT: A lot of natural girls spend some serious time on their hair but yours definitely looks simple and un-styled. What’s your everyday hair routine?
AM: It depends on the time I have to get ready! But I have have two looks: The 5 minutes or less is a slicked back bun with a deep middle part. I use Eco Styler gel and a bristle brush. It’s easy, sleek and works for any occasion. My 10 minute or more look (which requires planning the night before) are Bantu knot-outs. I untwist and fluff in the morning using a pick giving Diana Ross hair all day. The bigger the better!
MT:NYC or MIA?
AM: NYC alwaysssssss and forever darling. No question! There is no place like New York. It’s gritty and aggressive while being so beautifully raw and dreamy at the same time.
MT:I live for a super sexy bar that everyone in town doesn’t know about. What’s your favorite date night spot?
AM: Date spot?! Ha! Well, I love a good steak and bonus if I can get really good seafood too. Eddie V’s in McLean, VA is one of my favorites 😉
MT: Whose style are you digging and might secretly influence yours?
AM: Past HAS to be Aaliyah and TLC circa 1996. They were afraid to wear men’s clothing all while making it look sexy. Button ups and boxers with a little belly showing. I like shit like that.
Currently, I’m all over Rihanna, Kehlani, Zoe Kravitz and a few Instagram influencers like Aleali May (@alealimay), a stylist and model for Virgil Abloh’s Off-White and Adidas and Mel’s Diary (@melsdiary) who has her own line showing how to really mix athletic leisure wear with classic pieces like heels and trench coats which is my style as well.
